Jacaranda Blooming

We took these photos weeks ago. The Jacarandas have since bloomed, the flowers have been trodden into a green-purple sludge, and the trees have little green bits slowly popping out and making their way out of hibernation.

I love this time of year - Sydney spring is really something to behold. The colours and the light are magnificent. The only dampener is the great rush of work and jobs to get done before the end of the year! Spring seems to slip into summer a little too quickly.

There saying that surrounds this Jacaranda tree on campus, which is: that if you haven't started studying by the time the Jacaranda blooms you will most likely fail your exams. Just another lovely spring link between stress and beauty!

Old Friends

While in London I jetted off for a few days in Amsterdam (hence the Amsterdam photo essay). One of my oldest friends, Anne (we've known each other for nearly 20 years!) lives just outside the city. She is an incredible pianist and was a wonderful host. We also managed to catch Sara - another friend since forever - for a picnic dinner in a park haunted by geese. I love these two ladies. We don't get together very often, but every time we do, we seems to just pick up where we left off. It was such a treat to be in the same place at the same time!It was a great little side trip, the sort of thing I really covet as an Australian, where even the shortest little trip to another country is a really long way!

Lions of London

I have long been fond of lions. Maybe it is the Leo in me? But I love the way these guys are both pretty cats and magnetic beasts. London is awash with lions - here are a few I collected...

Possibly the most photographed lions in London - at Trafalgar Square.
Mosaic lion at the British Museum
Children drawing lions at the museum
Plush lions at the Tower of London
 Super heavy advertising lions
Regal lions at the V&A
... and stately lions at the Wallace Collection.
