Bonfire and Me

In the evening we gathered around the bonfire for Easter eggs and marsh mellows. The fire was absolutely massive and totally mesmerizing. We starred into it for hours, taking breaks to gaze up at the stars. Pretty magical stuff really.
A few weeks ago Emily of The Daily Fashionista tagged me for The Versetile Blogger Award. I have been slack in getting around to responding - sorry Emily and thanks for passing this on to me!
It asks me to share seven things about myself and pass the award on to seven bloggers I have recently discovered.
So here we go...
1. I started knitting a year ago and I am quickly becoming an obsessive knitter - I get withdrawals if I don't get a bit of knitting time each day!
2. I love that time of day just before the sun starts to sink and the light makes everything look warm and vibrant.
3. I eat mushrooms on toast every morning for breakfast. Yum!
4. I really love a capella music. I am totally amazing that a bunch of voices can make such awesome sounds - like The Idea of North!
5. I am an awful speller - as many of you may know from my comments on your blogs! My year 6 teacher wrote on my school report card 'Rebecca has creative spelling' - not much has improved since then. I am just so grateful that I live in a world with spell-check!
6. I love naps. There is nothing better than an afternoon snooze, and I am lucky enough to work at home a few days each week to indulge in after lunch siesta time!
7. I adore Pre-Raphaelite art, and wrote my honours thesis on two of may favorite painters - William Holman Hunt and Simeon Solomon. In fact I really ought to do a few more art posts!

I haven't really had time lately to discover new blogs - but perhaps if you have recently discovered mine you could shout out and claim the award youself :)

Easter Road Trip

Over the Easter weekend we bundled a crowd  into the car and drove up to a friend's place in the country for a bonfire. Their place is absolutely beautiful - full of interesting bits and pieces that have been collected over the years, friendly animals and lush gardens.

On the way we stopped at a driver reviver (is that just a NSW thing?) for cups of tea. They also had a tank that was used by the first Australian tank batallion.
Cows! We ate the most incredible cheese that had been made from their milk.
The neighbour's cat had just had kittens. They were so incredibly adorable! I almost had to take one home. I think this little guy has found a friendly family in Brisbane. Isn't she precious?
Posing with the puppy.
I love this cat. I need to learn to do this face.
I wore my 'fox hunt' outfit. The skirt has scenes of a fox hunt, but shhhh... mr.fox is asleep on my top... don't tell the hunters!

Love Vintage

After breakfast on the beach I went to the Sydney 'Love Vintage' Fair. I have mixed feelings about the fair. It is lovely to browse and see some of the amazing things (like this beautifully embroidered cloche above), but the entry fee seems to go up each year and on the whole the stalls are way overpriced. This cloche was over $300, the skirt below $150 and the average '50s cotton dress close to $200! Even so, I found a few bargains and had fun browsing.
Antares - this is JUST like the coat you wore last week from Glebe Markets?

Who buys these little kids shoes?
This is what I bought - some lovely velvet and cotton which I have ear-marked for making into a full skirt,; a candy-striped day dress, a sensible mint-green skirt, gloves and 2 belts. I am particularly excited about the scout belt: Be Prepared!!

Blown down the beach

On Saturday morning Ian and I met his mother at the Bondi for breakfast. It wasn't exactly beach weather - but we fought through the wind down to the boardwalk and watched the storm threaten to blow our way.

I must have been channeling the beach pallet unintentionally as I got dressed, because I blended nicely with the sandy yellows and many shades of blue in the landscape and of the beach-front buildings!

Market day

Last weekend Georgia and I shared a market stall at Rozelle Markets in attempt to clean out our wardrobes. It was a completely gorgeous day - so sunny in fact, we both got a little burnt (eek!). Georgia took these fabulous photos - she had her own blog - check out her thoughtful and evocative photos. I am hoping to steal her awesome photography skill again soon :)

I wore my cat dress. I seriously love the print of the fabric - but it isn't the best quality. Unfortunately I also lined it with cheap rubbish, so I am planning on taking it apart and re-lining it. That print is too wonderful not to wear more often!

Also thanks to all the lovely people who came to visit me on Saturday - you guys are the best!

Shiver Like Timber

Last weekend we went to see the gorgeous Shiver Like Timber play at World Bar. It was a great night with footpath-dumpling-dinner before the show. Betony was delightful as always and World Bar was quite an experience! It is a club in an old terrace house - someone said that made it feel like a wild house party that had just gone completely out of control. Georgia took these photos with her magic camera and awesome skills that means photos can happen at night in low light. I'm hoping to show you more of her photos in future posts!

I wore my Wheels and Doll Baby dress made of the most luxurious velvet :) I bought it for myself for my 21st birthday. I absolutely love it - but need to be feeling a little bit brave for the plunging neckline and figgure hugging cut!

Sorry I have been so slow at repsonding to comments this past week - work and life have kept me from the interweb, but I will checkout all your lovely blogs soon! Happy Monday :)

Berry lovely

I love these berry-coloured Dahlias. When I worked in the florist I used to greedily hope no one would buy them, so I could take them home with me at the end of the week. I love the way the different shades of reddish-purple seems to buzz.Yesterday I put together an outfit inspired by my flowers - clashing berry tones - for a wander through the markets and coffee with some old friends.

In other (very exciting!) news - last week I became an auntie!! My sister gave birth to a perfect baby boy. He was a couple of weeks early, so I have been racing to get a little knitting project finished and sent off to him. I can't wait to meet him when I head to SF later in the year!
