Fraser Island

Ian and I spent one glorious day on Fraser Island. It it is the largest sand island in the world and is spectacularly beautiful.
We booked with a tour group who organised the whole day for us (such a relief!). They also had the most amazing (and kind of terrifying) 4WD buses that whizzed over the sandy bush tracks and zoomed along the sand dunes. We scored a seat just behind the driver!
We started off with a walk in the rainforest... and tried to avoid things hitting us on the head.
Then ran around between Eli Creek and 75 mile beach.

Explored the Maheno shipwreck. I love the layers of rust and barnacles - some amazing textures.

Had a visit from a little plane with a pilot who looked the part (he was even wearing aviators!)
Then finished the day with a swim in lake McKenzie.

Then jumped on the ferry home where we met the Ferry Fur Ball. I don't think she was very happy about us invading her ship.

  1. Love these photos! Your set really captures the idea of adventure, and you are dressed perfectly for the occasion. <3

  2. Great photos! Do you remember the first time you went to Fraser Island?

  3. We didn't even make it off the Ferry! But I do... I remember tears... and bleeding on your shirt. then waiting in the hospital to be patched up - and I have th scar to proove it!

Ian made sure I was sitting down and holding on tight to ensure no tripping could occur this time. :)

  4. Amazing photos!!! Love this post!

  5. I'm so happy I stumbled upon your pretty blog. Your vintage style is to die for!! And it seems you had an amazing outing.

    I love your skirt-waist dress Rebeccak. :D
And gee, this post brings back some memories.

My family and I had a holiday on Fraser Island! It was fun, but also scary with driving around and getting bogged and well... We actually cut the holiday short because in the end we didn't want to wreck our only car!

The shipwrecks and snorkeling around there was amazing though!
